Sutherland photo trip review

At the end of April 2011 I spent a week in the Scottish Highlands, exploring the landscapes and photographing the wildlife of Sutherland and the northern parts of Wester Ross.

Cape Wrath Panorama

This took me to a number of beautiful locations, in particular:Greylag Goose

  • Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve
  • Handa Island
  • Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach
  • Cape Wrath
  • Culag Woods, Lochinver
  • Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve
  • The mountains and moorland of Coigach and Assynt
  • The coastline of Wester Ross
  • Cromarty Firth

In the end I managed to find and photograph a total of 20 species (with varying degrees of success!):

Mammals (4): Red Deer, Highland Cattle, Common Seal, Bottlenose Dolphin

Birds (16): Heron, Oystercatcher, Great Skua, Shag, Fulmar, Common Tern, Great Black-Backed Gull, Razorbill, Buzzard, Shelduck, Avocet, Greylag Goose, Curlew, Meadow Pipit, Dipper, Pied Wagtail

Falls of MeasachI was blessed with fantastic weather for the week and it yielded a good number of new images that I’m very pleased with.
